Recently, the government has issued guidelines urging everyone to socially distance themselves and companies are encouraging their employees to work from home, it’s natural that many people are feeling anxious or lonely.

According to the Guardian, before the coronavirus pandemic struck, 1.7 million people mainly worked from home in the UK, or about 5% of the country’s 33 million workforce. Over the past month, millions more have joined them in the spare room or at the kitchen table.

Our team here at Fierce Digital has been implementing the following practices to curb the loneliness during the coronavirus pandemic and would like to share our ideas and top tips for staying in the loop to help you combat being on your lonesome.

Walking and talking on your lunch hour

The team at Fierce Digital decided the best way to stay sane while working at home is to catch up with colleagues on a “walk and talk” session. This is the best way to stretch your legs, get some fresh air and catch up with your workies. This has really helped us remain positive and motivated throughout this difficult time and we highly suggest implementing something similar whether it be with your colleagues, family or friends.  You can connect through the Microsoft team’s app for Android/iOS, the skype app or merge phone calls, etc.

Play online multiplayer games on your lunch break

This could go hand in hand with the walk and talk session, playing real-time interactive games while communicating and having light-hearted fun with colleagues is a great way to split up your day. There are several multiplayer games out there that you can connect with your workies on, here are just a few we’ve come up with:

Draw something

Genuinely the coolest social drawing game around! Draw and guess everything from doodles to perfect works of art with your colleagues, family or friends. Also, drawing can bring you JOY – it definitely brings us it. This games honestly a great way to let your imagination run wild and stay connected with the outside world in these dark times.

Psych!

This is our number one favourite game to play on our lunch. You can choose from a variety of fun categories in which each player makes up fake answers to real trivia questions. You must pick the outrageous but true answer from many other absurd and fake answers being presented in front of you… but be warned, its addictive.

Stop

This is our Head of Digitals favourite game of the pick. You must select a letter to start and write the words of the six different categories (for example: occupation, fruit, food, things, nationalities and clothing) that starts with that letter. The player that gets most correct words wins!

The truth comes out

This option is the funniest game we have played thus far. Answer exciting and hilarious questions about your friends, like “What’s the last thing Tamsin googled?” and “Who is Stephanie’s celebrity doppelgänger?” or “What’s the biggest secret Nikki is keeping?” You then vote for your favourite answers and score points when your answer is chosen… WE LOVE IT.

Or if none of that tickles your fancy, you could just simply play charades on video call or a classic game of I spy? That works too…
